One of the most important things a motorcycle rider needs to do before taking to the roads is to acquire motorcycle insurance coverage. Motorcycle insurance coverage is required by the state of Georgia. At The Beck Agency, we can provide motorcyclists with an insurance policy to cover their liabilities and protect their investments in their bikes.
You have several options for motorcycle coverage. Two main types of coverage you want to consider are liability and collision coverage. Liability coverage will cover the costs of damage you cause to another party as the result of a motorcycle incident. Collision coverage will cover the cost of damages to your own bike.
You are not required by the state of Georgia to purchase collision coverage. However, it is a good idea to do so anyway or you will have to pay out of pocket for damages to your bike. In terms of liability coverage, the state sets forth some basic coverage requirements that you need to meet.
The following are the state liability coverage requirements to be aware of:
- Bodily injury coverage - You need to carry coverage for resulting medical bills if another motorist, passenger, or pedestrian is injured in an accident you are involved in. You need to carry $25,000 in bodily injury coverage for an individual and $50,000 total coverage per accident.
- Property damage coverage - You also need to carry coverage for damages caused to another party's property. You need your liability coverage to include at least $25,000 in property damages per accident.
In addition to liability and collision coverage, there are other add-on motorcycle coverages to consider including comprehensive coverage. You should be aware of all your options before you choose a policy.
